ABSTRACT

The questionnaire was divided into three parts, with the third part acting as means to classify respondents into various groups. In Part I (45 statements), respondents were asked to state the degree of agreement or dis agreement with statements on various aspects of organisation and management on a five point Likert scale (see Part I data descriptive in Appendix A). In Part II (75 factors), the respondents were asked to indicate on a scale of 0 to 10, the importance placed on various factors: in the past, at the present and as expected in the future (see Part II data descriptive in Appendix B). The reason for emphasising the rating of 'importance' of each factor was to distance the respondent from the term 'failure' . This was done in order to prevent the manager judging his own performance as such measurement is subject to bias, especially, in the face of poor performance or bankruptcy.116
