ABSTRACT

The previous chapter discussed the issue of pilot fatigue and considered some of the various ways in which fatigue can come about. As we noted, fatigue often arises not from a single cause but through a confluence of factors which, unfortunately, can sometimes be rather difficult to isolate (at least outside of a laboratory setting). One effect of this circumstance is that practical research on fatigue related performance decrement in aircrew cannot always be readily generalized from one setting to another.
