ABSTRACT

In the early to mid-1990s pilot and flight attendant unions, sometimes working together with management, developed programs to provide psychological support to crewmembers, other company employees, and their families after an accident or incident. These programs involve the management of critical incidents or accidents using peer volunteers under the leadership of mental health professionals. Peer volunteers are trained to facilitate debriefings with the crewmembers or employees directly involved in or effected by an incident or accident.
