ABSTRACT

The airline industry uses Line Oriented Flight Training (LOFT) extensively to provide crews opportunity to practice Crew Resource Management (CRM) skills in realistic and challenging full-mission flight simulations. How much crews learn in LOFT and take back to their flying on the line depends in part on the effectiveness of the debriefing that follows the simulation (Helmreich & Foushee, 1993). The LOFT simulation is a busy, intense experience, and thoughtful discussion afterward is necessary for the crew to sort out and interpret what happened and why.
