Thecyborgisapersonwithaddenda-somethingstrange,foreign,other isaddedtothebasicingredientswhichdenote'human'.Cyborgsabound inpopularculture,mythandlegends,andincontemporaryculture,the cyborghasagreaterpresencethanever.Manyofthecyborgsofcontemporarycinema,digitalstorytellingandvisualculturearedisabledpeople, enhancedandsupplementedbytechnology.Somecyborgdiscourses showafascinationwiththesensualandkinaestheticexperienceof 'being-added-to',beingdifferent.Inparticular,someofthesediscourses whichfindexpressioninpopularvisualmaterialfocusonlivedexperienceandthecorporealisationofthecyborg-ontheperformanceaspects ofvisualmedia.Iwanttoarguethatthesensationalised'addenda'of disabledpeople-suchashigh-techprostheses,andalsowheelchairs andcrutches-canhaveadualfunctionincontemporaryvisualwork. Theynotonlyactassemioticmarkersofdifference,butalsoasseductive performanceinvitationsintoadifferentformofembodiment.
