The United Kingdom lies entirely within the British Isles. Some 92% of the population Jives in urban areas. Most Britons (94%) are either English, Irish, or Scottish. The Irish are the largest minority group, but there are also communities of such European peoples as Italians, Poles, and Greek and Turkish Cypriots. The most recent addition to the population has been the immigrants from the ex-colonies of the British empire including blacks (mainly West Indians), Pakistanis, and Indians who now total some 2.3 million or about 4% of the total British population.
