ABSTRACT

The final Dublin Descriptor states that a successful doctoral candidate can ‘be expected to be able to promote, within academic and professional contexts, technological, social or cultural advancement in a knowledge based society’. This descriptor is about taking the knowledge and experience acquired during doctoral study and using it for the good of general society. It’s about applying expertise in such a way that society advances, whether in terms of furthering academic research in progressing technology, deepening understanding, or in transferring knowledge beyond academia. It’s about making knowledge count.
