ABSTRACT

This chapter uses actual cases to give a realistic picture of Korean employment relations (ER) in the workplace. Two case studies are described: one unionized and one non-union organization. Both belong to the electronic industry, and are ranked among the ‘big three’ in the sector in Korea. As shown in Table 9.1, LG Electronics (Case 1) produces an array of electronic household appliances, whereas Samsung SDI (Case 2) specializes in electronic display products. LG Electronics is also bigger than Samsung SDI in terms of size of workforce.
