ABSTRACT

Besides these aspects of risk management, the way in which authorities address the event in the press has become an issue of importance itself. An overly calming approach by a minister may raise suspicion among the news media and the public could amplify the perceived national risk. At the same time, adequate information prior to risk events that does not downplay the seriousness of a risk as well as adequate information directly after a calamity may prevent a wave of media attention and increase trust in the authorities.
