ABSTRACT
The dilemmas of The Merchant of Venice allusively relate to the development of fraudulent conveyance law during the period between 1571 and 1601 as well as to antecedent works of English literature that we know Shakespeare read: Sidney’s Arcadia and Spenser’s Faerie Queene.
