ABSTRACT

Routledge's 'Arguments of the Philosophers' series, and the 'Cambridge Companion' series do not contain especially rewarding volumes on either Kierkegaard or Nietzsche. A better place to begin is Routledge's 'Philosophy Guidebook' series. Lippitt's guide to Fear and Trembling (2003) contains a good bibliography, and looks beyond FT to Kierkegaard's work as a whole. Leiter's guide to Nietzsche and Morality (2002) is a first rate, rigorous treatment of Nietzsche's ethics, the final chapters of which concentrate on GM. Welshon's The Philosophy of Nietzsche (Acumen Publishing 2004) is a very thorough, analytic introduction to Nietzsche's philosophy as whole. Pattison's The Philosophy of Kierkegaard (Acumen Publishing 2005) repays some attention, although it approaches Kierkegaard largely through theology and continental philosophy.
