ABSTRACT

Information services are made up of people whose functions and purposes differ. There are task differentiations of a clerical, professional and administrative nature, people who plan and those who execute, and differentiation according to the subject specialization, media or the technology involved. In addition, most information services belong in organizations where further differentiations of task and perspective occur. These differentiations can often be a source of conflict. An understanding that the true reasons for the conflict are not personal but related to role or specialization can be personally reassuring. The recognition that sources of conflict in organizations are often related to roles rather than individuals can also assist in maintaining good personal relationships between people whose roles are in conflict.
