ABSTRACT

Power, influence and authority are behavioural processes that allow managers to achieve their goals through the actions of others. Power is the ability to influence others. It is legitimized in authority. Power may be sought by individuals or groups. The quest for power will inevitably lead to competition which, if healthy and productive, will be beneficial to the information service and its members. However, when such a quest leads to disruptive, selfish or harmful behaviours, the outcomes may not be as beneficial.
