Negotiation can be defined as a process in which two or more parties try to reach a common agreement on matters where there are both common and conflicting goals. The parties deal directly with each other in an effort to persuade or compromise with the view to reaching a desirable conclusion. Negotiation takes place with varying degrees of formality

Successful negotiating requires experience on behalf of both parties, confidence, and the possession of high-level communication skills. Time and information are critical factors in successful negotiations.
