ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses collection, survey design, and the use of data for economic analysis of commercial fisheries. In particular, we consider the issues of data collection in both developed and developing countries, and for both large-scale commercial fisheries and small-scale or artisan fisheries. Such data provide the basis for good decision-making and better fisheries management. Our focus is on the type of data to be collected, how it is collected and its implications for economic analysis that are examined in details in chapters 3, 4 and 5.
