ABSTRACT
It is hard to establish the birthdate of reinforced concrete as a building material: its invention occurred when a builder came up with the idea of sinking metal bars in the mortar in order to obtain a material device that would be rigid and suitable for building. How the invention became official through a legal mechanism (the patent or the licence) that served to validate and sanction it is a different story.
