ABSTRACT

Auxiliaries are those lovely things that seem totally alien to water-well drilling practices and things that the average driller only reads about. Yet some are not only tailor made for water-well drilling but are downright essential. A good system will not only measure the weight on the bit but also, with a second "needle", the actual weight of tools in the hole—essential information for the "thinking" driller. A junk basket is a bit like a tube with holes in and open at the top and is fitted immediately above the junk bit so that those larger pieces of junk that are too heavy to run to surface in the mud might just hover above the bit and very conveniently drop into the junk basket and come up on the next trip. Mud guns is a sort of a jetting tool attached to the end of a hose from the by-pass on the mud pump.
