ABSTRACT

The chapter begins with an outline of the aim of the international survey aspect of the research and describes how it was undertaken. Findings, based on analysis of responses, the literature and organisational websites, and conference attendance, are then presented under key themes that emerged from this element of the research. These begin with an overview of general sources of information, guidance and advice available from international associations and examples of these (English language) from other countries. This is followed by an outline of select models of, or approaches to, disaster management in different countries with examples of activities and initiatives, followed by an insight into regional or local networks and the kind of activities they pursue. Training has a key role to play and an example of a major international programme is included. The chapter ends with consideration of issues arising from analysis of the international survey.
