ABSTRACT

Discussions on digital ID naturally tend to focus on the identity of people but, as the technological developments discussed in Section 2 of this book made clear, radio-frequency identification (RFID) has naturally become the focus of new kinds of thinking. It has been around for some time and is already widely used in some sectors (Finkenzeller 2003): mass transit being one of the largest (London’s Oyster cards work this way). In the near future the identity of things will be just as important in both corporate and government identity management strategies as the identity of people.
