ABSTRACT

The fast technical developments in recent years have enabled museums, using multimedia applications and Internet offerings in numerous and imaginative ways, to bring art closer to interested people: either in introductory form over the Internet or in the museum itself, perhaps in the form of a kiosk system. This provides in particular a great opportunity for people with disabilities; to a certain extent disabilities can in part be compensated for, thanks to the technical possibilities and new access routes which can be created. Examples of this are model projects in which art works with creative image descriptions which are also understandable by blind people.
