ABSTRACT

In the early years of the new century the efforts of the previous twenty years in the culture and technology field may seem a bewildering set of diverse and unrelated initiatives. Nonetheless, from the collection of papers in this volume and from elsewhere, it is possible to discern a number of common threads in this colourful tapestry, many of which originated in the pioneering years in the 1980s which have been pursued and developed, despite setbacks. It is also possible to develop some conclusions regarding significant achievements and pointers to the future including both positive and negative ones. In general they complement and/or reinforce those from the DigiCULT roadmap.
