ABSTRACT

As the amount of air traffic increases worldwide and the fiscal constraints on the growth in air traffic systems become a limiting factor, the need for improved traffic flow management systems has become widely recognized throughout the world. As a result, practically every industrialized country is trying hard to improve the performance of its existing traffic flow management (TFM) system. The international community is actively promoting advanced computer tools that claim to enhance TFM system safety and performance. Most aviation agencies are actively developing and/or installing automated aids to be used in both operations and maintenance of TFM systems.
