ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews end-to-end card-issuing business processes in detail for credit and charge cards and how they vary for debit and commercial cards. Marketing includes all activities involved in developing or modifying offers to acquire new cardholders or persuade existing cardholders to spend more on their payment cards. Debit cards require minimal marketing if offered as part of the checking or current account product of the bank. Commercial card marketing is directed at businesses and large companies. Plastic card production consists of developing, preparing, personalizing, and delivering cards and related materials to new customers and reissuing cards to existing cardholders. Payment processing broadly covers activities linked to cardholder remittances and crediting of payments received to cardholder accounts. Risk management activities for the prevention and investigation of cardholder fraud including identifying and monitoring suspect activity, receiving lost/stolen reports, investigating missing and counterfeit card usage and so on, are included in this business process.
