ABSTRACT

In the first decade of the twenty first century public play spaces for children have an appearance that has changed little from the beginning of the twentieth century. It is also the case that facilities for specific sports have also retained their character – a tennis court, a golf course, a football field from one hundred years ago is very like those of today. On the other hand there have been changes in recreation provision – such as the new type of swimming centres and water parks, replacing the baths and spas of previous centuries.
