ABSTRACT

The descriptions of Påñ∂aval¥lå performances and wedding celebrations have each focused on the role of the ∂hol and damauñ within ritual and entertainment in Garhwali festive occasions. Undoubtedly, these drums are the predominant and most versatile instruments of the region. Consequently, they are used together in numerous occasions and rituals in ways similar to those described in Chapters 7 and 8.
