ABSTRACT
On 8 December 1994, the Constituent Assembly of Ethiopia ratified a new constitution bringing into being the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE). Among the specified 'Fundamental Principles of the Constitution' are human and democratic rights. Article 10 proclaims:
