ABSTRACT
TheEthiopianandEritreanstateshavebeenatoddsovermanyissues, culminatinginanopenwarbeginninginMay1998.Oneoftheobvious aspectsoftheconflictistheborderwarbetweenthetwostateswitheachside claimingtheBadameborderlandaspartofitsterritory.Theongoingwar betweenEritreaandEthiopiaisalsogeneratedbymanyotherfactors,for example,economic,cultural,andpoliticaldisputes.Thewarisa manifestationoftheinabilityorincapacityofthetwostatestomanagetheir internalcrises,aswellastheirdifferences.Theconflictnowiscreating broadergeopoliticaldimensions,leadingtofurtherdestabilizationoftheHom Region.Accordingly,abriefhistoricaloverviewhelpsusunderstandthe ongoingconflictanditsripple,effectsintheHom.
