ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the procedures to be used in evaluating the hundreds of ideas obtained in brainstorming sessions. While the evaluation by the team can run concurrently, the final stage does require the evaluation from all participants to be available. There are two objectives in the evaluation process. They are: To identify the few good ideas and implement them. To demonstrate to the participants that action is being taken. After all, brainstorming was selected out of the many problem-solving techniques available, to try and find an answer to a difficult problem in the organisation. Participants leave the brainstorming session after the wildest idea, laughing and feeling that they have contributed to solving the problem. Reverse brainstorming is a useful technique in its own right and can be used outside brainstorming whenever higher authority has to approve a course of action.
