ABSTRACT

This article, written by the coeditors o f The Counseling Psychologist's (TCPJ Interna­ tional Forum section, reviews the status o f counseling psychology from an international perspective and presents a rational and modest proposal fo r promoting counseling psy­ chology’s commitment to global perspectives. The brief history o f TCP's International Forum section is reviewed and specific recommendations fo r internationalizing counsel­ ing psychology are put forth. These recommendations are organized along (a) methods o f psychological science, (b) profession-based initiatives, (c) Division 17 (counseling psychology) initiatives, and (d) program-specific activities. The marked challenges to internationalizing counseling psychology are also addressed.
