ABSTRACT

Traditional knowledge mapping's objective is to discover the location of existing explicit knowledge within an organization, usually in knowledge storage technologies such as databases or physical archives. Having identified the potential size and location of the knowledge leaks, the next task is to compare all the analyses, a job best undertaken by a senior manager in consultation with the person(s) who will eventually manage the knowledge capture process. The Knowledge Retrieval Plan will consist of a list of individuals and events and a schedule of when the 'capture' exercise might or should take place. For specified jobs, for example, the knowledge-owners who leave at short notice should be scheduled for knowledge capture in the last month of their employment. Like the Project Map, the Knowledge Chart and the Employee Transit Audit and the Knowledge Retrieval Plan should be repeated annually.
