ABSTRACT

The Human Component 2.1 Introduction The design of a cockpit, like the design of anything involving a human operator, needs a broad understanding of relevant human characteristics as well as more detailed knowledge of the aviator's job. This chapter gives a very brief overview of the main human systems and their interaction, concentrating mainly on aspects of speech, hearing, vision and attention that are assumed in later chapters. It ends with a short account of the role, selection and training of the aviator.
