ABSTRACT

The personal skills in this chapter deals with: Time management; Stress management; Emotional management and happiness maintenance; Assertiveness; and Negotiation. Each skill set focuses on performer ownership, performer responsibility, areas of focus or analysis, and it considers some factors for the performer. The factor for time management includes causes of time waste: correspondence, callers, meetings, travel, working methods, and personal preferences. It also includes Pareto analysis of time use, keeping a time-use log. Set up systems to minimize time waste and disruptions. Correspondence: managing it faster, more effectively. Telephone: managing incoming and outgoing calls, ending conversations firmly. Travel: make better use of travel, multi-purpose travel, travelling when quickest with the least delays. Delegation: maximum use of staff to save time. Personal preferences: utilize personal preferences to maximize use of time. Energy levels: use energy level peaks and troughs to maximize time use.
