ABSTRACT

Paradigm analysis consists of trying to identify the beliefs behind observed behaviours, emotional reactions and assessable outcomes. Assessment of real-time performance can be achieved by video or audio recording. Situational analysis can be as detailed and meticulous a process as indicated by each of the above. The skills analysis should specify the knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours that define the skills concerned. The trends in the performer's appraisal forms are extrapolated to deduce performance at the time of assessment. The holder of an empowering paradigm will view the problem as a challenge, as a foil against which to improve, as another good reason to continue with self-development, and so on. Explore the beliefs surrounding incidents in which the performer feels a strong emotional reaction or generates a strong emotional reaction in others. Strong performances indicate the presence of empowering beliefs as part of the overall paradigm.
