ABSTRACT
This chapter will address regeneration initiatives with respect to former industrial European neighbourhoods that are closely connected to the development of urban areas, e.g. mining, steel and textiles. There is evidence of the same policy trajectories in the United States (McNulty, 1999). For reasons of space alone, this chapter will focus on coal mining and steel communities.
