ABSTRACT
THE purpose of this essay is to describe the actual foundation of the Sacred Congregation de Propaganda Fide which took place on June 22, 1622.
For almost three hundred years (1622-1908) this Congregation was the highest court of jurisdiction, after the papacy, over the Church in the United States.
