ABSTRACT

The Chinese government structure was initially established according to the system of the former Soviet Union in the centrally planned economy. In addition to comprehensive economic administrative organizations, the ministries were established depending upon the different industrial sectors for the convenience of managing various economic development within the centrally planned economy. Since the transition to the market economy, the Chinese government has restructured its framework and amended its administrative system several times, typically at the central government level to cope with the social and economic changes in the transition. Some industrial ministries have been repealed. The functions and responsibilities of these ministries have been concentrated to the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Trades.
