ABSTRACT

The South Pacific region includes Australia, New Zealand, and all the neighboring small island nations in the southern part of the Pacific Ocean. Australasia and Oceania are sometimes used to refer to this region. China has maintained strong relations with Australia and New Zealand since it established diplomatic relations with the two largest South Pacific states in 1972.
