‘Psychological Distress Amongst AIDS-orphaned Children in Urban South Africa’

In 2004, 13-18 million children worldwide were orphaned by AIDS (UNAIDS, 2004). South Africa is currently experiencing one of the world’s m ost severe HIV/AIDS epidemics, with 30% of p regnant women HIV-positive (Department of Health, 2005). An estim - ated 830,000 children were AIDS-orphaned in 2005, a figure th a t is predicted to rise to 2.3 million by 2020 (Actuarial Society of South Africa, 2005).
