ABSTRACT

There is a certain irony in the fact that at this ‘post-modern’ time rejecting all other ideologies, the ideology of ‘children’s rights’ and ‘children’s autonomy’ has gained a lot of authority. As Michael Freeman formulated it:

The liberationist movement challenged those who claimed the status of children should be advanced exclusively by conferring on children increased protection. The emphasis shifted from protection to autonomy, from nurturance to self-determination, from welfare to justice.1
