ABSTRACT
Every individual, every family, every community can identify objects, whether natural or artificial, to which some special significance is attached. These may represent status or achievement (such as badges or sporting trophies), or can be used as good luck charms or mascots. But objects may also be invested with and represent such other abstract attributes as divine power.
