ABSTRACT
Injury interpretation is very much "bread and butter" work for the forensic physician. Increasingly acknowledged as one of the special skills of this field of medicine, it remains one of the most fascinating and yet contentious areas of forensic medicine. There is often an unrealistic expectation, by the lay public, of what the forensic practitioner can derive from observing a wound; a process fuelled by a number of television dramas and detective novels.
