ABSTRACT

Aviation is a small world and there is a strong tradition of self-help and collaborative support between competing airlines. As a result, much training consists of material simply copied from other sources. The very first CRM course to be run in the UK was conducted by a pilot who had attended a 5-day course in the United States and trimmed it to 3 days for the British pilot audience. I need to stress, from the outset, that training material production takes time. As a rule of thumb, you should allow 20 hours of production time for every hour of delivered classroom instruction. As soon as you start to move into more dynamic modes of teaching, then the production ratio increases.
