ABSTRACT

In the course of my reflections, what occurred to me was that all the families I was working with had some kind of abusive background. As I pondered their situations, the questions that stayed with me were many. How will I negotiate differences in agency philosophies and mandates? How are we dealing with child protection issues in Sweden compared to Canada? Is it possible to become a functional parent after having been abused as a child? How are we dealing with these issues differently in Sweden compared to Nova Scotia? I address some of these questions in this chapter as I reflect upon my learning experiences.
