ABSTRACT
I am a 34-year-old Canadian; white, heterosexual, female, divorced, with no children. When the University of Victoria offered international placements, I jumped at the opportunity. I love to travel, and have gone overseas many times before, but always as a tourist. I always felt, that as a tourist, I did not get a real appreciation of the people, their culture, and their experiences.
