ABSTRACT
The archives of British banks break down into three broad groups, the first relating to a bank’s internal affairs, the second covering the activities of its customers and the third relating to the involvement and interests of its directors or proprietors outside the bank. This chapter seeks to describe the purpose, format and research value of the chief series of historical records commonly found in bank archives.
