BQ in Table A 14.1 represents the amount of barley eaten by the barley eating equivalent population. The mark-up for the cost of baking is taken as 10s (or 120d) per quarter; this is added to the price of a quarter of barley. Multiplying this total price by the volume estimate gives BQV, the figure for the value of barley bread consumed.
