ABSTRACT

No doubt the most significant change for learners is that they will be expected to study online for part of their course: this often requires more independence and self-direction than they may be used to. The aim of this chapter is to discuss first the practicalities of blended study and then the ways in which students develop as self-directed, independent learners, illustrating this with examples from the blended learning survey and the experiences of students at the Open University (UK) from data I collected as part of my doctorate.
