ABSTRACT
The increasing number of ethnic groups within the population of each European society poses for social workers and their managers the question: What theory and which instruments can be developed for social work practice and its management, in which the notion of 'ethnicity' is firmly embedded? The answer to this question should have a dynamic character in the form of an acknowledgment that people are able to exercise agency in the formation of ethnicity as a constantly changing aspect of their identity.
