ABSTRACT

Let us take the aim of science as the representation of nature (reality). How are such representations done? What is the logic of representation?

Every representation, except for very simple ones,1 requires a medium. For instance, in mapmaking, one requires a medium such as a piece of paper or a slab of clay. Media are not theoretically neutral. In the jargon of philosophy, we can say that they are theory-laden. While each medium provides us with a means to expresses certain ideas, it also limits what we can say.
