ABSTRACT
As a result of numerous systematic and costly failures, a large number of technology-based industries have recognised the significance of effective training systems in terms of tl1e prevention of human error in the operational environment. In particular, there is a growing recognition that personnel must be inlmersed within a learning-based environment from initial entry into the industry, and tl1at the training process should continue on a regular basis. The emphasis of tl1is type of ab-initio training is typically to encourage im10vation and the promulgation of principles of safety tlrrough a training system which is firmly based within contemporary educational practises.
